Welcome to the official site of La Cave de Cafe.
La Cave opened its doors in 1962 and closed in 1969. In between, musical history was made along with some very good times.
La Cave is planning a reunion June 25, 26 and 27, 2010 in Cleveland, where it all happened. Music, fellowship, memories.
Save the dates!
NEWS -NEWS-NEWS
The La Cave Reunion Festival will feature shows headlined by three great and historic folk artists and special guests.
On Friday, June 25, we have Josh White, Jr. After appearing in several Broadway plays, Josh began his recording career in the early 60s, following in the footsteps of his father, the legendary and groundgreaking folksinger Josh White. Josh Jr. played at La Cave, and what makes this appearance particularly meaningful is that his father was the very first performer to appear at La Cave when it opened in 1962.
On Saturday, June 26, we have Brewer & Shipley. You'll remember this acoustic duo's #7 1971 single "One Toke Over the Line," and other hits, including "Tarkio Road," "Indian Summer," and "Witchi Tai To." Brewer & Shipley also played at La Cave (Tom Shipley is from the Cleveland area)
Opening for Brewer & Shipley will be Carolyn Hester. Carolyn was one of very few females of the new generation of early-'60s folksingers, along with Joan Baez and Judy Collins. Known for her beautiful singing voice, she was also significant in folk history for having a then-unknown 19-year old Bob Dylan play harmonica on her 1961 album "Carolyn Hester," launching his recording career.
Both days start with a cookout, storytelling and reminiscing, performances by former La Cave regulars, and much more. Join us as we celebrate La Cave's place in Cleveland music history.
STILL MUCH MORE TO COME, SO STAY TUNED!
Both shows and events take place at Wilbert's Food and Music at 812 Huron Rd. in downtown Cleveland. And Singalong attendees get special discount ticket prices!
